Pleyel #13555 is unique and unrivaled. It is the only known pianoforte played and selected by Chopin, autographed by him, in excellent, original, unrestored condition, completely playable, privately owned and available for sale. Many works of Chopin were composed on this same Pleyel Model E which Chopin used often for teaching, playing and private performances. Above photo by William Woodruff.

Data from the Pleyel archives on Pleyel #13555 and its sale (provided both by the Pleyel company, Yves Henry and Chopin scholar/author Professor Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger of the University of Geneva) |
At the monastery on Majorca, he used this upright model (Pleyel #6668), not only to polish and complete the 24 Preludes in Opus 28 - including The Raindrop Prelude theme you are now hearing - but also to compose two Polonaises of Opus 40, the Ballade number 2 of Opus 38 and the Scherzo number 3 of Opus 39.
Chopin specialists, such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Pavlina Dokovska and Peter Gach, have found playing this one-of-a-kind piano inspiring.
